Sunday Stool
The design of a simple piece of furniture that meets my intended audience’s needs without sacrificing the aesthetics of their context using only wood, joints, and wood glue.
Persona
My intention is to design a sitting stool for my grandparents Pedro and Olga. Every day goes by and I see how their daily tasks become more difficult. I decided to design a stool or bench that sits at an adequate height comfortable for both of them with armrests for easy standing. It is perfect for a certain spot in their home where they sit to put their shoes on on a daily basis.
Inspired by the environment and laid back routine of my grandparents’ lifestyle and home. A homemade five course breakfast for the grandkids on a Sunday Morning.
Sketches
Sketches done with Bic ball point pen or blue graphite as a study of form, I considered two-seaters but finally chose to make a one person stool.
Modeling
Small Scale Models
Models made out of basswood as a proportion and aesthetic study. Chose to remake an iteration of the larger model for the final model.
Digital Models
Models and Renders made on Fusion 360 as experimentation of form details, materiality, and final readjustment of scale.
Full Scale Model
Full Scale Model made with 2”x4” for joinery exploration and construction analysis.
Final Product
Final made using tools such as a band saw, chop saw, jointer, planer, router, etc.
