First stop in my expedition—New York City

visit to the MoMA

Before flying to Berlin, I visited my friends from home and my friends from DAAP in New York for three days. During my time there I obviously went shopping for the fall in Berlin at my favorites stores in the Lower East Side with my DAAP friends who were starting their coops in the city, went to the MoMA for inspiration, had amazing food at San Marzano’s with Willow (DAAP fashion major), and went out to Rash in Brooklyn before flying straight to Berlin on Saturday Night. Going to New York is always so refreshing for me since it’s huge but still feels very much like a small town to me, which sounds a little cray.

After an eight hour flight, I landed in Berlin, grabbed my four suitcases, and took a taxi straight to my flat, a really nice two story apartment at the living hotel in Weissensee, where I shared a balcony with all of my friends from the University who were also doing the program. After settling in, we took a stroll around the Plansche am Weißen See and got dinner at what would become one of my weekly dinner spots, Sahara, a sudanese restaurant with the best Makala Chicken Halloumi Sandwich I have ever tried.

Made it to Berlin—September 15, 2024

September 16-20th, 2024

song obsession of the week:

The week of September 16, I started working at my Coop in the neighborhood of Friedrischain. My boss, Mendel, was intimidating at first, but really nice and so cool and wise, I immediately knew I would learn a lot from him. This week was my first time attempting to learn my tram route to work, which I quickly got accustomed to and would sometimes get to work without even knowing how I got there since I would take the tram so instinctually.

September 21-30th, 2025

During the weekend of the 21st of September, up until the end of the month, I spent my time running around the city and getting familiar with areas like Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz. I spent a lot of this time with Cailin and sometimes Arlie, and we would shop, take pictures, go clubbing, get nice lunches, and tried to take full advantage of our limited time in this huge city. I quickly grew immensely fond of Berlin, to me it has a certain air of indecisiveness in its different areas, as if it doesn’t know how to label itself as a city. I like this aspect of it because I feel like the people are also very much that way, all sort of reserved, but sort of searching for a release or a niche novelty. At work, I began spending more time at the shop building random things and modeling lamp iterations for a fun project my boss wanted to develop. At this point, I finally felt settled down and was used to my room, getting food from the Netto, walking around Friedrischain or Weissensee, taking the tram, and it was all a refreshing routine in the best temperature.
